What's your editing process? What do you focus on?

Well, we're a little late for that option, having already signed the contract and received the advance for my first book. They have also commissioned an artist on their dime and hired a narrator for the audio book, in addition to having hired a developmental editor. My agent was pretty happy...

How long do you take to write your novel?

I'm averaging about 275k words a year (I am a little past the three year mark and have 900K words written). That's a bit over 2 large novels a year. The time for a specific chapter? All over the place. Sometimes I write 2 in a single day, other times it takes me a week to write even one.

Writing What system of units do you use in your fiction?

I tried to use metric, because as a concept it is certainly cleaner and better, but when writing and having characters estimate things, I was spending too much time and effort converting from my initial habit of imperial measurements and some of them felt more awkward to slide into a narrative...

What's your editing process? What do you focus on?

I write on Libre Office. Nice simple word processor and spell checker. My first edit pass is when pasting it on to Royal Road, which I do via Chrome. RR is where I started, and I am only using Chrome for pasting into RR because for some reason pasting to RR via Firefox messes up my formatting...

Why must it be a sword, especially in eastern cultivation, namely the jian sword?

On the battlefield, absolutely, and the same with a guard post or the like. And if you are traveling, then you can keep it on your horse, or use it as a staff/walking stick if on foot. But they would be an absolute pain to carry around inside a city or castle. 'Everyday wear' was a sword (for...

Why must it be a sword, especially in eastern cultivation, namely the jian sword?

Once you have athleticism and basic martial prowess done, the differences between basic weapons becomes smaller. A knight was expected to be a master of sword, lance, mace, flail, bow (for hunting), and unarmed combat to the point of being able to wrestle and throw another knight when both were...

    Conflicting morals

I very rarely come across a character who matches my morals/ethics exactly. But most characters who lean toward at least reactive heroism are people I could be friends with and I won't have issues reading about them. My definition of reactive heroism: they don't go looking for someone to save...

As an author, which character would you want to possess if you transmigrated into your fiction?

Hmm. Let's run with a variation that works better in my head: A character in my story is going to have memories of a past life awaken, which will be memories of me. Meaning they already are the future of myself, just neither they nor I know it until this moment. So the 'I' of now would merge...

Why must it be a sword, especially in eastern cultivation, namely the jian sword?

Swords are the real world ubiquitous, full sized weapon. While the spear and its big brother the polearm dominate on the battlefield and in places where someone is standing guard, swords are the weapons that nobles and mercenaries alike (depending on local laws) will simply have on them at...

Do You Enjoy Novels With Humor + Family Chaos?

numbers 1 and 2 I am not so much in favor of. Prolonged embarrassment is something painful for me, including anticipation time, which is why I generally do not like sitcoms. Even when I recognize how well done it is, it makes me squirm and want to leave the room or otherwise block it out. The...

Are Strong MCs Really Boring… or Are We Just Reading Them Wrong?

Authors, what do you prefer digital writing (typing) or writing on paper (pen)?

No, if physical writing was my only choice, I would never write. Pen and paper is physically painful for me, and always has been. Being gifted an electronic typewriter when I was in middle school was a life changer.

What moment in the story made you cry and is unforgettable?

Of course I draw a blank when trying to recall a specific moment. But I know what types of scenes tend to make me tear up the most. The painfully sweet ones. Those moments of tender joy that sharply contrast something else previous in a person's life. I recall Beware of Chicken having...

Question for Writers with Ongoing Stories

The internal pacing of a chapter is based on the current events of a chapter, rather than the overall pacing of the story. If one were to look at a pattern reflecting how fast each chapter was, one would find that the fast paced chapters tend to be clustered together, as part of an ebb and flow...

    'Plan to read' implications

For me, it's #1, the same as with physical books. I really like to read, but I can only keep up with so much at a time.

Authors, do you have any favorite characters besides the MC?

It's a convention that evolved around romance stories, so there is no in-convention answer for your scenario. That does mean you are free to make up your own if you want. :) But it really only matters in stories with multiple MCs.

Need help with multiple MC story

You probably picked up on this as we posted across each other, but to be sure: yes, during most of the story, the three MCs are together, or at least close proximity, and are always in contact with each other. They form a single narrative from multiple PoVs. Oh, and no explicit scenes, though...
