    What's up with the downvoting?

That first part jives with what I remember from working call centers, where customer feedback correlated more to the customer than to the tech or the service they provided. Like, some customers always left nasty feedback, even when the techs moved heaven and earth and fulfilled every part of...

[Poll] Best thing you can get from a reader as an author

Honestly this was a hard choice, because all of these are good, but inspiring others is peak. I picked 'Fanart' both because I can't draw and because I get fanfic on the regular; one of my readers has been pumping out an ongoing crack fic AU in the comments over on RR for... About a year now I...

    What's up with the downvoting?

No, that really kind of makes sense. You're basically using five star as a 'like' on free stuff, where you've invested nothing other than the time reading. Meanwhile with something you paid for, you're expecting a higher quality product, so letting others know not to spend their money is useful...

    How much is too much?

For what it's worth, I did notice something earlier today. Not sure if it's a glitch, or relevant, or what. I had Shipgirl go through and check to make sure I didn't miss any chapters when uploading them as drafts. She noticed two were missing. I added them, then shifted them into their...

Your Guide to Writing the Best Novel (Pure Facts)

Oh, noes! It took my MC 78 chapters to become a Literal Deity! I am shame! I am fail! *dies*

Is 5k words too much for the first chapter?

I read this and thought about the Diary, where the shortest chapter is just over eight hundred words... And the longest one is over twelve thousand. But overall it's more important that the chapter grabs the reader's attention and pulls them along than how long it is.

    How much is too much?

I'm curious about this too, because I do my alt-POV chapters out of order, and after releasing them I later slide them into their proper end-of-volume spot. Except Halloween ald-POV Days, but those are different.

    Writing When is head-hopping head-hopping?

Oh! Okay, yeah, I get it now. Honestly, while very explicit, also not as bad as some of the stuff I've seen on UD.

Should we start a Writing Competition??

I dunno if I could write Het again. I mean, I could try, maybe. Not sure. But I don't really have the bandwidth to write anything else. You can't make me! I will not create another Potato Salad Abomination! NO!

    Writing When is head-hopping head-hopping?

When you look on UrbanDictionary and it doesn't show up, you know it's got to be bad.

    How much is too much?

Uh... Uh oh. I mean, I haven't been cow-banned on RR yet. Yet. Although I'm using my 'Volume One' cover here on SH because the 'Series' cover over on RR looked, as one reader said, 'kinda young'. The new cover is a tiny bit more Anime and looks more 'freshman in college' than 'senior in High...

    Writing When is head-hopping head-hopping?

The two can and often do overlap. Honestly any time someone shifts perspective within a scene, at least without some kind of obvious chapter or other break, it feels like head hopping to me. That said, I've written multiple Multi-POV stories, and they almost always get some kind of negative...

    Writing When is head-hopping head-hopping?

I dunno about that. But then omniscient perspectives are hard to pull off well, in my experience. Not impossible, but people are endlessly creative in how they manage to mess things up. Okay, I am, and there have to be more creative people out there than me, right?

    Writing Building a Routine

While my personal routine is a lot different from this, the premise itself is gold. Just note, routines are not easy, especially for some ND folks, but 'not easy' and 'not possible' aren't the same at all. I started a routine where I wrote and posted a chapter a day into a (what I thought to...

    How much is too much?

I have, at present, nine hundred and fifty-six chapters to catch up on. I add one a day. Two a day is not gonna catch me up before the endgame of the thing. At twenty-four a day I'm looking at six weeks of posts. At two a day it'd be some time in late 2028. Even at seven every three days I'd be...

    How much is too much?

So one an hour for forty two days... Is that spread wide enough? Amusingly, I am one of those authors whose toes are perpetually JUST this side of the 'we ban your fiction, we ban your account, we ban your cow' line, apparently. Every time they shift their policies regarding explicit material...

    Any Advice?

No worries! I debuted at Decadent, sold stories six and seven to JukePop, and have two article series up over on Unconventional.ink (one under my Legal Name, one ghostwritten). Plus, y'know, my current RR stuff. Weird, I hadn't heard of MLA. Gonna ask my brother, he reads more than I do. Not...

Has anyone managed to make their professional debut?

You're very welcome! As for RR, if you don't have any 'Adult Content' in your novel, you can create an account and post it there. I'd recommend holding off until you can do like at least a week of 'post every day' or even more for the first week. Getting on Rising Stars on RR is HUGE, and it's...

    How much is too much?

I have stories about LLM generated slop. Okay, one story, and it involves a review-swap where I pointed out the AI generated flaws, after which the author removed his 'AI Assist' flag and report my review for having untruthful information about his fiction. All that after I read through the...

    How much is too much?

Oh thank all that is holy. Thank you. I was low key panicking. Because I've spent the last four months off and on, plus the last week hours-per-day loading chapters, then the past few days scheduling the first few days' worth of releases at roughly one-an-hour. I really hoped there wasn't some...
