Math is the most reliable field of study to exist... ever. The science of 300 years ago used today might get some weird looks from scientists. But no one has a problem with using math that was made 300 years ago.
I had a professor that once said baseball was the key to American foreign policy. Countries that had troops occupying them that had a viable baseball league that outlasted the occupation had a much more prosperous future than ones where they forgot to spread baseball.
Apparently, in Amsterdam even brick and motor stores you so up, buy stuff and they ask you where you'd like it to be delivered. So not that different than online shopping (granted not many people drive there)
Building up a world just to deconstruct it is not a great way to write. For example, lots of goblins are savage. But then there is this one goblin, and that other goblin, they get together and make a goblin city that isn't savage.
