There is a difference between perceiving the MC is unkillable versus knowing that the MC is unkillable.
The former is us readers knowing that most likely the protagonist is unreplaceable and therefore still with us all the way till the end of the story. We the readers can be shock and awe at the adventures.
The latter is the author telling the readers straight out that the protag is unkillable.

To me, cultivation, magic and or martial arts is just my way of wanting MC to get stronger with effort so that he can murder better.
