Imo, that's how the story feedback and its adjacents usually devolve to. And while we're at it, opinions for whatever in SHF. It's the same way people always argue if this and that constructive critisms or not. Or why rating system discourse never disappears.
@SirContro probably semantics, but the inner circle has no fear because their advices are always what the ruler desires.
@SirContro If I understood correctly, yep, that's roughly what I meant. The point I'm making is that, if the king's advisors say their honest thoughts and provide advice without thinking about how, how much, and when, it's very likely someone might interpret it wrongly, which can then lead to a whole lot of unwanted, mostly negative consequences.
@SailusGebel Going back up for a moment, yep, I get what you mean because I've been there. A part of my family is kind of like that... and another part is the opposite and doesn't get it at all. Not fun during Christmas.
We talked about something similar some time ago iirc, on my profile even.
I personally like psychology as a hobby, for my own satisfaction and introspection. A lot of what I've learned there has helped me with a couple of mental quirks I have. But I don't think I will ever be able to stomach psychology as an academic subject.
I generally feel making post secondary subjects more available is better. For example, the ability to access sciences like astronomy? That should be available even without needing to go to school. Psychology is the same- to an extent. But it also is medical. (Part 1)
Funny how that's the only thing I accept, with lots of reservations. It's precisely the fractured knowledge of theories that people try to apply I deem to be harmful. They might work once or twice, but that's where the trap lies. Once it worked, people believe in it religiously, and apply it to everything. They let it get to their head even if they swear they didn't.
Same as any checkup with a doctor. But it needs to be treated that way. While self help knowledge is important for everyone and needs to be accessed, to practice and use it? It is the same is needing classes for CPR. You need more than the baseline knowledge to be able to help. (Part 2)
Yet things like betterhelp, if done well are a positive. It doesn't rely on the person teaching themself ways to help, using people who should be certified to help. If the alternative, is being self taught? Then that is better. But it doesn't manage to. Betterhelp decides to do poorly because it puts money first. The best option is by having governments cover psychology... but who knows
That just seems to be a waste of tax money to replace a business type most people are fine with, especially with how governments don't exactly have a good track record in putting the needs of their citizens first. The actual best form of therapy is to have a good friend group.
