    Might be my poor memory, but I do enjoy the current trend of the skill upgrading system as it combined the conventional of "press + to level up skill" with a little bit of "visiting a parallel future" gimmick.

    The latter gimmick being deemed too OP that no new works are about it.

    So the current trend is "MC use time units to level up skill and can experience the time spent, unlike some system which at best threw in muscle memory for instinctive movement or at worse having the MC to re-adjust to his newly upgraded skills, MC with the new system already knows, because it is like "locked in a room which MC practises ceaselessly".

    Another gimmick in both works (the first work I dropped because MC was too passive) is upgrade failure/ death detection.

    As quote by the first work, "(I was) trapped in a room where I can't die normally and worked till time end, you can give a normie an eternity and still he can't make a nuclear bomb with nothing to work with".

    This forces MCs to learn outside skills to complement his current skills and to use the upgrade system better.

    The first MC also used the system to test if his current body has been poisoned, though it was only shown once and handwaved to background.

    I was referring to how the newer writers would stick to what pays the bill.

    Even common old ones like that tomato does the same.

    As for odd old ones like Get Lost, they have some habits to try and expand what they write because they don't really have a fixed stance.

    Then for Legendary Mechanic's writer... he just not great in making opening.

    I always dislike the BS "it's the wacko period where monsters appear, we need to discard our long range weapons and use pointy sticks and stone instead because *insert BS reason*"

    The dumbest reason I heard is "because monsters have AT fields that SPECIFICALLY work against bullets and explosives." But not weeb weapons and kungfu fighting?
