There are plenty of other terms that can be used and are much less problematic than the Japanese term you're explicitly using.

Saying loli doesn't mean you want a child character, it just means a character with child-like appearance, there's a difference.

If I said I wanted child-looking character, that wouldn't make me a pedo (Not that I would since I don't really care what a character looks like as long as it's not problematic). it also depends on the context, like if I wanted a loli to be with this severely depressed guy who lost all his innocence, it would be as if I'm saying I want this guy to see the innocence he lost and protect this child's innocence.

The context of when you use loli matters, not just the word itself. At least from my experience, most people don't automatically go things like pedo or any of that, we just assume kid or that person is making some joke with the word.

But yes, there are other terms like petite, or small, or short stack. Loli is just the most recognized one and I personally never think of anything weird or bad when it comes to that term unless that character is presented in a weird way.

And the Japanese part doesn't really matter. You don't need to be Japanese to say a word associated with Japanese culture. I don't know where that came from.
