As the title states, something is off about this story. Yesterday I read 5 chapters and didn't suspect a thing, but today I read chapter 6, and the whole plot had changed to something a lot more sanitized. Not only that, but chapters 1 to 5 that I had read disappeared and were replaced by a different chapter 1 to 5. If the story hadn't been in my reading list, I would never have noticed the bait and switch. The grammar is more monotone, the style is more generic, all the smut was removed, certain characters disappeared, the plot changed, the synopsis was altered (but the tags didn't even though they are now inaccurate), etc.

Objectively, I think he's lying about having written this. Subjectively, the AI rewrite got rid of my favorite character (the arachne).

Took a look myself up to chapter 6 and the story reads... mechanical? I'm not really getting much personality out of it personally. But to make sure, I read up to chapter 9 and stopped there. I'm seeing a pattern of some 'it wasn't this, but this, and that' type of sentences. And in general, a lot of highly polished but generic sounding ones.

It's kind of weird because the original first 5 chapters did appear like they had the author's personality. The rewritten first 5 chapters appear as if they were written as an example of what a generic steampunk world looks like. Plus, writing 5 chapters the first day and 16 chapters the second day is sus as hell.

Yeah, I mean title confusion could lean into more of a translation thing in my mind, but being unable to make a 'law' consistent when it becomes a point of tension means a failure for basic consistency within a short space of a few chapters.
Part of that might just be my bias to establishing a setting before doing stuff in a story, but I'd expect the most basic conflicts to at least be plotted beforehand.

Honestly this is one thing I'll probably never fall into. Writing for me is expressing my own designs, I love writing because it is one of the few ways I can design and express things, my hands are screwed, they shake constantly from nerve damage and I can't write my own name without pain.

If AI gets good enough to become a consistent storyteller, the most I will ever 'fall into' is having it help me express what I want to with less typing, something which still hurts but less.
My current hatred of AI writing for my own projects is how it completely assassinates any identity and atmosphere from what I'm trying to do, I've scrapped and dropped a few projects because I wanted to try and use the tools available, and felt they killed off all motivation in that project because managing them to 'do well' was more effort than it was worth.
