Does SH have a lot of bots?

I started writing a story, and after just the first chapter, I've gotten 4 DMs, 3 of them feel like they are written by an AI, and 2 of them are literally identical. On the second chapter, I've got a comment that really feels like it was written by an AI. Is this normal for SH? Is it flooded by bots? Or are these mostly likely humans that just use perfect grammar in a DM/comment for whatever reason? Also, most of the accounts were made within the past 2 weeks.

There are quite a few spam bots but it is something every site has to some extent. Whether they are AI or regular scammers is unknown. Reporting it to the mods is all that can really be done at the moment.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! Honestly, I've already posted 14 chapters on Wattpad, and while my story got much less attention on Wattpad, I haven't found any bots, so it was kind of a surprise for me to see this many DMs and comments that look AI generated on SH.

When I was first posting my stories, I got quite a few votes, but for whatever reason, they stopped completely after a few weeks. I haven't got a bot message in over a month.

Get them all the time just ignore them. If you want people to be able to speak to you. Set up a discord and use that.

Most likely a scam. Check the account and when its made. If its recent then its probably a bot. If its a hudden account and you cant see the profile at all. Then dont engage it.

I would, but I have no idea how to set up a discord server... I guess I'll have to look into that. : )

Their reading list is not hidden, but the account was made on the 13th of October, 2025.
Btw, what are the risks of engaging with a hidden account?

I've got like, one legitimate reader who actually reaches out or comments. At least on SH. And I'm just assuming they're real because they never actually asked me to commission anything.

Not necessarily! Some people just have private profiles, but those folks usually aren’t commenting or DMing you.
In my (limited) experience, bots and scammers target new authors and new stories more frequently but generally don’t bother with older stories. I’ve had a grand total of zero bot interactions on SH, but when I started posting on RR a couple months back I received multiple scam DMs within, like, a day or two of my story going live.
