The Authorial Urge to Post Everything

I have a huge amount of difficulty resisting the urge to just burn through my buffer and release everything I’ve written. This even though access to my buffer is basically the entire benefit of being on my patreon. The dopamine I get from releasing a new chapter and getting even one comment across multiple websites is too great.

So, am I alone in this, and if not how do you guys handle it?

Hedonistic impulses.

Would you rather get one comment now, or 5 comments on the same amount of words every week 6 months from now? Reliability and consistency produce consistent readers. It took close to two years to build up enough of a following to the point where my chapters get multiple comments each time. Resisting hedonistic reward impulses for longer term goals are how you get larger payouts.

That’s the fun thing. I do resist the temptation, and have for a long while. This is more for venting purposes than anything else lol

The only one I've had this urge with (other than the two I'm kind of being forced to do it with) was Strange Awakening because that story actually has honest-to-goodness fans and I don't want to hold back ... but also don't want to put everything out there.

Get the urge all the time. Successfully resisted it none of the time. This is my one hedonistic urge that can never be resisted!

Yeah, it was a problem for me... The only cure I had for it was Patreon, and the need to have a backlog otherwise, I would be in a pickle

You can resist the urge by posting all of your chapters. That way, you don't have anything to post.
