When I first joined I was extremely active and I think I actually unlocked custom titles before I changed from a new member... (I think the new member thing is time based right? Otherwise feel free to berate me for my ignorance I brought it upon myself )

Titles and all other things are post based - meaning you need to write X posts/threads before it unlocks.
Some things might be based on reputation, but I do not know about them.

Yes. But they become irrelevant once you plop yourself a custom one
