A semi-political question, but are your beliefs similar to the people around you?

Or are you a total maverick with totally different ideals/beliefs than the environment you grew up in?

Where do you think your beliefs/ideals came from?

beliefs aren't necessarily political but it's beliefs of what matters which basis political values.

My beliefs and ideals come from Jesus Christ and the rejection of modernity for its sins and I am a total maverick.

My ideals are a result of my critical thinking. I didn't adopt the ideals of anyone from my environment. I had to think my way out of some ideals that I did adopt, and it took a while. That's why my experiences helped me grow into a fuller person...well, vampire person.

Books / the world finding and interpreting "The moral of the story".

Writing i thought, let people understand humans / people with "whats it like in their shoes".

I had thought (wrongly) all writers are enlightened like that.

The origins of beliefs are *complicated*. They are a synthesis of the beliefs you have interacted with and internalized, processed by the circumstances in which you interacted with them, the emotional situation, along with your own personal experiences, in a manner determined by your prior beliefs.

There is no such thing as 'original', everything is a product of one's environment, but at the same time that combination of factors and experiences forms a complex and unique network extremely unlikely to be replicated exactly in anyone else, thus forming an 'original' belief system, in a way.

Out of curiosity, is there anyone else in your community who is also religious? Or did you sort of just randomly discover your faith by yourself?

I feel like there is a story behind this and I want to know......

I believe in this too! But I'm just curious if you see yourself in this way -- if you take a 10,000 foot view, do you resemble the people around you? Or do you resemble people very far away from you (i.e. a liberal in a very conservative area)?

I mean, a mix of both? Rarely does anyone have beliefs shaped purely by their own conviction or by someone else's molding. It's usually a mix of the two, and its hard for me to tell what I think truly is my own original beliefs, or brought on by judging other's opinions and fact.

I use a random point generator on a three dimensional XYZ cordinate map to determine where I stand on any given issue and any possible set of beliefs for a random given time.

I don't reccomend this method.

Idk about geographically, but socially, I'm fairly similar to my family and the people I choose to interact with, but different in key ways. I was raised religious, Lutheran (my Grandma's a pastor. Well, retired now, but), and a lot of my views on morality are rooted in that, but I've also adopted a somewhat retribution-based philosophy due to my personal feelings regarding certain evils, I've developed a self-dependant mindset when it comes to problem solving due to some bullying when I was younger, and a skeptical and sometimes cynical view of people and religion just through my own ponderings as well as stories about some of the things people and religions do. And I have a strong sense of self, an individualistic streak to not submit and go with with the flow or crowd or be subservient, that I partially blame on my autism, partially on me mirroring my mother, and part on just my own unique nature. The combination of the three ultimately leading me to atheism.

So a lot of the foundations of my beliefs are rooted in my family, but they've been altered by own experiences and nature, stories I've read and heard, into something with some key differences, but also many similarities.

My parents are atheist, but they're also very traditional/Confucianist. They're not horrible people, but they're judgy and gossipy, and they have a lot of conservative beliefs. Which are very popular in my country, and I mean VERY. Even among the younger generation.

On the other hand, I grew up in English Reddit and Youtube communities, so I disagree with everyone around me on almost everything. And I prefer Buddhist teachings over Confucianist ones. I'm more idealistic, individualistic and naive, I guess.

So I'm unsure. If we count the Internet in 'product of my environment', then yes. If no, then no.

I don't touch grass that much and after a certain point, you discover a wall of pain and hurt and the only way to overcome it is self-justifcation to create your own ideals
Or did you sort of just randomly discover your faith by yourself?
everyone here is like Catholic but I myself am like Orthodox Christian because of their teachings of man becoming like "Gods" through reunifiaction with God. It makes sense with the Biblical fall and it would be a good narrative

Mostly environment, partially through self reflection and research.
My beliefs fundamentally come from my material conditions. Growing up poor, with poor health, in an area forgotten by both national and state politics. My family is mostly made of workers, like most folk, and I too am a worker.

Am I the only one giggling at 'good narrative?' That sounds exactly what a writer would say.

I test everything. If I believe something I dig into why I believe that, and break it down. It's why I believe in God. I've reviewed my life, there are too many times I should've been dead.
