Tell me which genre is currently the most trending in most online writing platforms, no differentiating between chinese, korean or japanese platforms!

Btw I got a contract for an isekai litrpg novel from webnovel and that's why I'm gonna give 1 points from me to both genres :blob_gift:

Isekai, more particularly the fantasy isekai, is trending across the most of the writing sites.

Isekai with sci-fi setting, or any setting that isn't conventional fantasy, is actually quite rare, even among the people who want to subvert the whole "isekai popular" thing.

LitRPG is usually an optional flavour for fantasy / isekai.

The works that insist they are somehow original are usually the dark fantasy vaguely inspired by the Game of Thrones, or claim to be Souls-like (as in Dark Souls).

Isekai (going to another world alone and naked with an OP Class and hunting wild monsters while looking for civilization for like ten chapters, not the usual japanese isekai with harem), LitRPG (Most of the time about Leveling Up and getting Skills and leveling Skills, ranking up Classes and shit like that, sometimes they add cultivation in the middle), Apocalypse (With Gates/Dungeons and Monsters, other Fantasy Worlds merging with real world)

Dark fantasy, Litrpg?? I think most of the litrpg are lighthearted if you compare to the real dark fantasy stories

If its something that somehow levels up mc then its a mix of litrpg and isekai?

While I'm not opposed to portal fantasy, it feels like an artefact from the time, when authors weren't confident enough about their ability to onboard the audience into a new speculative setting without inserting a real world point of view. A relic that should be left in the vault to be handled by only steady purposeful hands.

On the other foot, LitRPG just adds another layer of abstraction to muddle the suspension of disbelief, and is an offshoot of the same videogamey tree as "magic systems", though I grant that its more honest in its enforced banality. I frankly fail to see the point, but then again I'm a chronically contrarian curmudgeon.

I think that only about a half of the LitRPG are lighthearted / comedies.
Rest are serious.

Non-LitRPG stories that try to subvert the trend are almost universally dark fantasy.

If you just wander through scans, you'll see hundreds of the lighthearted ones with 5-10 chapters coz the makers think they're doing something really new and unique -_-

Oh...

...but CN novels tend to be quite dark.

...Korean Manhwa goes I think about fifity fifty. Same goes for their novels. I think they have highest degree of the LitRPG, perhaps due to the fact it was their Manhwa that started it for them

I think Japanese web novels have the greatest degree of escapism you would eventually see in manga and anime.

Most of them fantasy too. (unless you count technological uplift ones like sci-fi, but since it takes place in the fantasy land, it's more science fantasy, or dark fantasy considering it is often quite grimdark setting in the first place)

Apocalypse settings have always been a genre, what are you even talking about? If something as stupid as "Isekai" is somehow a genre then why Apocalypse isnt? Literally everyone and their mother treat it as one. Your attempt to correct me and sound smart doesnt work, retard

Brother don't give us your opinion, no platforms accept apocalypse as a freaking genre?

Bro just got heated up because someone spitted some facts on his face?‍?️

And don't mention apocalyptic literature coz the one you're talking about is not that -_-

1. Webnovel (QiDian International)
-No dedicated "Apocalypse" genre
-You can use Tags like "Apocalypse," "Dungeons," "System," etc.
-You usually have to place it under Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or LitRPG Genre.

2. Royal Road
-No standalone Apocalypse genre
-Best fits under LitRPG, Progression Fantasy, or Post-Apocalyptic
-You can add Tags like "Apocalypse," "Dungeon Break," or "System"

3. ScribbleHub
-Same as above—Apocalypse is a Tag
-You’d categorize it under Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or LitRPG

4. Tapas & Wattpad
-No Apocalypse genre; fits under Fantasy or Sci-Fi
-Tags help visibility (but Tapas is less focused on LitRPG)

5. Kindle Direct Publishing (Amazon KDP)
-You can categorize under Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction
-Apocalypse itself isn’t a main category, but keywords help

So in short, Apocalypse is mostly considered a tag or subgenre rather than a full-fledged genre. The closest dedicated genre on any platform would be Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi or LitRPG (if it has game elements)?

Isekai and litRPG are not only non-exclusive for each other, but there is also a large overlap.

Isekai is when people go to another world, like Dante's Divine Comedy, Alice in Wonderland and more.

litRPG (Literary Role Play Game) is when you write out a RPG adventure in story form. This often involves stats and progression being checked.

People being summoned to another world and given a system (like so many stories have) count as both Isekai and litRPG

LitRPG is different from Gamelit (Game Literature) which goes through the story without needing to show all the details.
All three categories can overlap

Apocalypse as a tag? Set in end times setting, eh?
This can go many different ways. For example: Mad Max and Tank Girl as society has been destroyed can count or may not. 2024 would count. Zombie outbreaks and other things can count. do you mean the MC trying to prevent the danger and possibly winning? I would argue that if it does count, only if society has been destroyed.
For me Apocalypse is a setting.

Yeah but the guy debating is saying that the tower outbreaks, Gates/Dungeons and Monsters, other Fantasy Worlds merging with real world is apocalypse bruh -_-

I know the literature apocalypse where society's been somehow destroyed or on the verge of destruction but the apocalypse he's talking about is just a sub div of litrpg where tower and dungeons out break but after some destruction people get control on the situation using hunters and blah blah and most of the apocalypse tagged stories have mc with a stupid system

Its funny to call it even an apocalypse when you already got control over the 'apocalypse'
