A thought just occurred to me. I think the fire bird has properties to it's story that indicate it's a less abstract version of the phoenix. The phoenix abstractly represents how a new civilization can rise from the ashes of a failed government in the way it is reborn from it's own ashes after burning itself to death in it's own flames. There is the fire bird. Literally just called "the fire bird," from Slavic lore. It can be caught by a hunter and kept in a cage for a noteworthy period of time. That said, it's also the one thing that can actually threaten Baba Yaga, so it's power scale is actually a little all over the place.
The firebird just literally shows up when the corrupt Czar in it's story is getting overthrown, and then flies off with the guy who represents the common worker who overthrew the Czar.
