Demons from buddhist hell? They exist? Iirc there are only tortured ghosts in there, no? The two closest creatures to demons would be hungry ghosts and demigod asuras.

Who is torturing dreamers in a nightmare? What would happen when you enter a nightmare, but no longer have a body to wake up? A mind trained to see others as a source of stress, trained to seek evil everywhere - where do you expect it to take its owner?
