"Profanity is the crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker"

Do you fucking agree or fucking not? If yes, then why you don't use it, if no, then why you fucking use it?

I personally avoid using curse words, at least when it comes to the main cast of the characters.
For one, I don't enjoy writing crass characters.
And for two, I feel using profanities often makes them lose any bite they could have otherwise.
It happens sometimes when the circumstances call, but it is rare.

But I don't agree that they make someone inarticulate. Swearing can be an art by itself.

I believe in the saying, 'Brevity is the soul of the fucking wit.'

Relying on profanity just seems like a lazy way to add length and personality to dialogue. Unless used purposefully (like for a character who is an 'inarticulate motherfucker'), it just sours the experience for me.

It lessens the impact of every curse word, makes the characters sound like edgy 12-year-olds, and just sounds immature.

You are thinking only of 'fuck', 'bitch', and 'shit', maybe a seldom 'motherfucker'.

It is possible to make cussing wity. It just usually doesn't happen. There is nothing saying profanities have to be unimaginative.

In general speech? Sure. I like it when its used in smart ways. That's why Vicious Mockery's my favorite spell.

If someone's character doesn't let out a solitary fuck when shit hits the fan, I drop the book.

It gets better when the character uses aussie or bri'ish curse words.
Or, this

Profanities are just words. Use them like any other.

Though it does add to impact if you use them sparingly. Imagine a character who has never cursed before, at the midpoint of the story, they just go "Fuck." One hell of a way to tell readers shit hit the fan.

Yes, it is very much possible, but most who rely on profanity don't do so. They just add Fuckity Fucks to look cool.

Those who use it with actual purpose could make it work well. Either by using them in creative ways or just using them sparingly.

Half agree, half disagree. It can be used well to great effect, but it can also easily feel out of place.

No, not on its own. Unless those are the only words you use. There are people I’ve met that cursed like a sailor that are more intelligent than most.

Profanity makes great filler words but there are much less versatile and more direct words that can be used in its place. I'll use a lot of profanity in my first draft but I'll change it to something better in the next draft after finding the right word to replace it with. Using profanity a lot is a lazy way of avoiding more verbose and poetic language.

As a writer, I don't give a damn, nor do I give a fuck.

If they can't read coz my characters cuss, they can freely drop my work.

For me, again i will pull out this FACT : Everything in life, the dosage is important (work, rest, food, anything). Too much or not at all, is bad
(that is why sith lords are evil)

Indeed.

Profanities, seems to cause a "invisible debuff" in persuation.
In fact youtubers, despite a situation being worth raging on, they wont and keep it bottled in, bc THEY KNOW, that if they give their explanation while swearing, their viewers (and genZ in particular) will IMMEDIATELY have this preconceived view BEFORE EVEN WATCHING that "the dude is crybaby/rager/toxic/complainer/etc" despite being right.

In fact
Its all of bc of the popularization of this SLANG WORD : "stop crying"
that became a CATCHPHRASE for toxic/bullies users

Causing now that anyone having a ounce of "expressing their emotions" (and also bc of the ragers/trollers/toxics in gaming that exist that do rage)
is mocked as "crybaby" or "child crying"
as if EVERYONE need to be robot

+1
true about "can be an art"
I forgot where, but i vaguely remember a funny video(s) of swearing that was quite cool and/or funny. The kind of "gentleman" swearing that slap the enemy, without any swear word.
Heck right now i remembered that in chinese novels, ioften saw a few before.
PS : anything can become an art (praising, not sarcasm) as long something arrive to the pinacle of it
PS PS : Ofc, like always like for any rules, there are exceptions

Bitch ass titty motherfucker sucking on his mother's tits while failing to pull his head out of his own ass got lodged so deep he's neighbors with his colon, absolute goddamn failure of a human much less a person. Goddamned loser so full of shit he's a walking clogged lavatory left of the abandoned clown factory because after they produced the most odious assclown they decided to shut down out of shame for making the most insufferable mistake of human existence.
