I cannot do it. I will fail to live up to the ultimate example set by Brandon Sanderson. No, I will not say which series or book. Just that it was one of the greatest endings I've ever seen in fiction.
One word. She.

Sad it went that way, but I suppose she had nothing else she really felt like continuing to live for. I mean, he was kinda all she clung to/cared for right? Oh, and the dude with no schlong becoming so much more than he once was? Definitely didn't see that coming.

Also, the little tidbits about the past that were slowly leaked about the kid who thought he was the chosen one? Then came to find out he was being screwed with? Kinda reminded me of Wheel of Time in a distorted way....which was amusing to me when I discovered he wrote the last 3 in that series. (With RJ's slew of notes to work with of course)

Wheel of Time is my favorite traditionally published series, but that series that you are talking about would definitely come into my Top 5. I don't care for the rest of what he wrote though. His Superhero series was....meh. But then I'm not a big "Super" fan so maybe I was biased from the beginning. I mean I can barely get into Worm by Longbow, forget even attempting his somewhat sequel to it.

This made me realise...what was that even about? Like what did it accomplish?
it's tragedy, it's popular back then.

Matis pulls up his arm knowing that he is ill prepared to face the demon king. He deflects the blade at the cost of his arm. his arm falls on the floor, he stumbles over it falling to the floor. He asks why his sister had to leave their realm. he gazes at the crystal struggling to get up with one arm. he feels Balos grab his collar. Balos wraps his hands around Matis's neck. Matis feels his consciousness drifting as the thought of the iconic scene where vader says " I am the father". unwilling to die leaving his sister more problems when she comes back from her mission. He begins mentally spellcasting. he feels himself slip up while in his thoughts. he knows he's gonna die now. he rushes through the rest of the spell. finally feeling the effects of the slip up his body burns from the inside out leaving only skin. the effect of his finished spell are felt as Balos begins to burn up along with the entire altar and crystal. He will be forgotten from the sands of time the loser brother of a legendary hero.

A decade has passed since Ikari transmigrated to this world. Not even once in his life he desired to become a hero, to be burdened by such a heavy responsibility, yet he never had the choice. Since that accident, his fate was already set in stone. It was a train with a predetermined destination and missing midway stops. He laugher, he cried, he struggled. And finally, oh finally, he overcame it all. The demon lord has perished! However...
Ikari felt his heartbeat gradually soften, his blood was drying, and darkness was about to engulf him. He was going to meet his enemy once more across the river of eternal slumber, but it didn't matter anymore. He had saved the world.
...
"Ok, Tanaka Ikari-san, please take your medicine every day as prescribed. If you are diligent, it will suppress your delusions, and you will be able to return to society soon enough." Smiling at the silly grinning man, the nurse made her exit. Before the end of her shift, she had to visit several more mental patients.
