My housemate of about 30 years and I were at a Burger King today to get some shakes for the afternoon. We decided to avoid the long line at the drive-thru (because "fast food" is so damned fast these days ?) and stopped inside to order and wait in line with about ten other people. We were chatting and looking around at all the kids, in their 20s and 30s at most, and listening to the orders being shouted out as they were completed.

While we waited, we heard one order number shouted out, "867!"

In total unison, we shouted back "5309!!!"

Total silence. Everyone looked at us oddly and we clammed up, and meekly, wordlessly took our completed order and left.

I just remember us walking back outside and looking at each other, "Didn't anyone get that?!"

I bet you did, right? ?
