The soul contains ones thoughts, and allows one to control the magic around them. When it decomposes you die. The soul is akin to the ever present aether, souls exists due to interact between the elements and aether. Most commonly the life element. The elements make up all matter, when the elements form self replicating and regulating chains, a.k.a life, there is a chance or a soul to be created. Souls exist are particles created by fluctuations in the soul field. Similar to the electromagnetic field. Except that in this field, there are complete and incomplete souls.
A complete soul has the ability to create spiritual brands, that allow it to assimilate other energies and matter. Each soul has its unique seal. It is theorized that this is the origin of runes. Complete souls will naturally repel other souls, with the repulsion being effective on similar or weaker souls in streangth. Incomplete souls attract and are attracted to both incomplete and complete ones. Often cases the stronger soul will assimilate the weaker soul. When life reproduces, a complete soul will capture an incomplete one, and complete the incomplete soul by giving it part of its soul.
Souls will decompose when not protected from planar energy. Planar energy is created by stars as they combine the aether with the elements, and other various energies. Planar energy will decompose souls when their particles hit the soul. When this happens, the affected area will temporarily become a new complete soul, and repel itself away from its host soul. If a soul is in a body, they are often protected from planar energy. Not 100% though the soul will gradually weaken. In biological life forms, the body often dies before then. When this happens, the soul loses its protection.
So, all a Necromancer needs to do is to find a new body for a soul, to create the undead. A Necromancer uses their souls to manipulate other souls. When a Litch creates a phylactery, they split their soul into a branded incomplete soul and their original complete one. They hide their complete soul in the phylactery, and control their body through the branded soul. There are roomers that state that you can split your soul into two are more complete parts, but that has yet to be done… Oh, am I rambling, sorry it’s not often that someone asks about our profession…
