Setting:
Elven eternal youth concealed her ancient soul. Her figure was right beside the ancestral fortress' window, but her gaze was far away to a place beyond this world.
The sight of her great grandaunt during sunset was one too familiar to Ellie. As far as the elven girl could remember, her great grandaunt had never truly smiled.
Looking at the older woman who was almost identical to her, Ellie wondered if one day she would do the same.
"Mel(lina)." Hearing her name called, Mel cast the distant gaze at the voice's direction. Her eyes refocused to reality. "Ellie. What's wrong?"
If the eyes were the windows of one's soul, then Mel's had lost its color.
Despite her best effort, Ellie's eyes turned red. With a trembling voice, she asked. "Mel. Are you going to leave us?"
In this point, Mel remembered that she had yet to put that old dagger back to its place after her failed attempt this morning.
It was no use hiding at this point.
Mel waved her grandchild to her embrace. "Ellie, darling..." Mel stopped.
Her silence carried on, enough for the curtain to stop swaying then to be blown by the wind then to stop again.
"Ellie... Every living thing is to meet Death once. We, elves, are merely allowed a more arrangeable schedule."
"Are you going to leave us, Mel?"
Mel sighed. "Ellie. I can not forget, nor can I forgive. Tomorrow has no room for those who could not move forward." She patted gently on Ellie's back. "Let me be, Ellie. Let me be."
Prompt:
That would be the last time Mel spoke to Ellie. Why had Mel lived all those decades in stagnation? Why did she choose to welcome Death itself?
I want a romance prompt but truly anything goes, it doesn't need to be strictly romance.
