It's a monster invasion.

You have "awakened"

A holographic panel appears before you

The words there are
[Use Currency to unlock more functions]

You have killed a weak zombie, but the currency value did not change

You press
[Top up currency]

And the words are
{Top up currency by inserting objects of power into the panel.}

Now you have to try dumping items into the panel to see what works.

Items are usually disintegrated and turn to ash, or sometimes nothing happens, and items just fall through the panel.

There is no correlation between the items that get disintegrated with what items that add currency.

You find an item that doesn't get disintergrated yet adds to the currency. Then you just keep throwing that item through the screen, over and over again.

Could I use this as a shield and/or weapon. Could I move the panel to absorbed or destroy living things? Maybe I could use it to dig by constantly sacrificing the ground. Hmmm ?
