What kind of tropes/genres/plots/cliches do you usually look for when reading a brand new [web]novel?

Well, I'm currently working on a BL too. I was going to make a "feedback needed" post once I hit 15 chapters, but since you mentioned that if the synopsis is interesting enough you would look into it. So I was wondering if you could give me a feedback on just my synopsis alone. To be frank, I tend to respect a lot of authors because of how long they've been writing on the platform and how much experiences they have, so I often asks for feedback and tips.

Straight to the point, if you can't find my synopsis interesting, then I don't think others will.

I look for an idiot plot and its cheap knockoffs. Once I see it, I abandon the novel.

If the only driving force behind the plot is the random idiocy of the cast, I get massive amounts of Spanish shame and can't read any further.

Haha, looks like I have a BL radar to be able to casually stumble into a thread that then turns out to be about a bl story :blob_sweat:

So, I took a look at the synopsis. From what I gather of the underlying story, it does seem interesting but, truth be told, the synopsis is way too long to be able to catch my interest at first sight. I'm sorry if I'm too blunt there. I'll try to explain what my problem with it is:
Like, the first two paragraphs are backstory that could likely be wrapped up in one or two sentences. It just goes on and on while I don't know what the actual story I'll be reading will be about (like, I'd rather know more about the present than the past because to uncover that would be more fun in the story itself, not in the synopsis).
I have no idea what the third paragraph is supposed to mean. Like, what is the pavilion, who is that lord, why should I care about either of that right now? I am honestly confused there rather than curious because I have nothing at all to base any assumptions on and it just seems so random. This might be because I can't see how paragraph #3 ties in with #1 and #2. Likely guess: The stone being stolen caused paragraph #3 but it's unclear just from reading for me and because I don't know what the importance of either the pavilion or the lord are, it just seems kinda unimportant overall even though it is likely meant to say 'this stone being stolen had unimaginable, bad consequences like all this ~ It just doesn't transport that feeling for me.
The most interesting part of the synopsis to me is the last two paragraphs that actually seem to tell me what the story is about and give me a feel for the characters I'd likely meet and an idea of what they might go through. These are what might compel me to read the story. The problem is that if I had stumbled over this not on the forums but on the mainsite, I likely would have stopped reading after paragraph 2 or 3 at most already so I never would have gotten to that part.

I will say that I am incredibly picky so maybe take this with a pound of salt and see what others say. If the synopsis was shortened with only the most important info, I would likely judge differently but as it is now, this likely wouldn't be it for me. I'm sorry :blob_cringe:
