I am genuinely curious. For me:

I always wanted to be a writer, so yeah. I was writing my own fantasy adventures as a kid, too, inspired by adventure books (those where you flip between pages). So for me, it started around when I was ~10 or so. My main goal is to a) entertain others and b) someday make it into my full-time occupation.

I’m curious as to why did you pick up a pen/keyboard/phone and started writing?

Hmm... I'm still not sure what my exact goal is.

I enjoy it and while it would be nice to make some sort of income from it, becoming a full time writing isn't currently my goal.

I think "Fun" is my current reason, I enjoy being creative but never had the best outlet for that side of me for various reason I won't get into. Writing is enjoyable and honestly the community has been a lot of fun to be part of. So making stories for me is a lot of fun, and I do enjoy seeing people enjoying my stories.

I just want to get the ideas out of my system, and writing keeps me occupied and never think of any stressful made-up situations inside my head.
Also, makes me feel more productive?

I wanted to write the ultimate real world meets fantasy harem story I'd like to read lol...

So I guess from those choices, to express myself/fun

Though I do also like entertaining others that like that sort of thing

I like animations because I was inspired by an animated show as a kid and wanted to make my own.

I picked up a pencil and started to draw and I really had fun and wanted to show off to my family but they didn't seem to care and I ended up closing off but didn't give up. I also showed this to my classmates because I wanted to share common topics with them but they were more on with their own friends and even fell inferior when some guy has more talent than I had which made me envious and closed off to myself.

I then moved on to comic strip art but because no one had keep pushing me to work hard, I slowly lost interest till a girl who was writing a novel and got curious and read one of her works.

I was shocked and ask if I wanted to try writing my own and got me through here because of her.

She was a shoujo novelist like all the people my country are and got me into wattpad which moved on to novelupdates before getting here.

I didn't know what I want to write and just wrote novels for fun before realizing that I didn't have a track goal because I just wrote it as an idea. So I kinda stop and just stored novel ideas in my app, never to be released since I'll just scrapped it half-way and never finished it so why bother.

Several things:

1) To express my ideas in mind,
2) To write something I want to read,
3) To (possibly) capitalize on my work,
4) To have something I can leave when I die.

Also, I'm originally a comic artist/mangaka, and when I realized that writing and drawing comic/manga pages would take me forever to realize my story plans, I switched to novel writing accompanied with illustrations.

(I mean, with my health conditions, I know I wouldn't last long, so I want to write many stories as soon as possible. ?)

Seeing so many of you writing for fun confirms why I feel it is fun to be part of the community here. :blob_cookie:

Mostly for shit and giggles, but also as a kind of therapy when I'm burnt out from work. Would be cool to make money with it, but my schedule is already too effed up to even make writing a regular thing.

Is beautiful and fun too. Seeing a entire universe raising from words is very therapeutic. The first reason I wanted to became an artist was to put the illustrations in my story. That was more than 12 years ago when I started to draw again and finally last year I started to release the story.
Goal: Mostly Im joking but a story more long than Guin Saga could be nice .
