While I don't like when series are taken down, I also don't care for when people make money while using IP without permission.

Sometimes it goes over the top though when they don't make money. When Nintendo takes down pokemon fan games that never accepted donations etc.

Not sure if they were making money through patreon or something, but that would be the determining factor for me on if I consider it fair or not.

Japanese companies are forced to issue takedown notices. AFAIK by their law system if they do not -- they risk losing their copyrights.

While interesting, it is within their purview to create programs of acceptable fan content. For instance, nintendo has "content creator rules". As such, they could in theory create rules to allow the content and maintain their copyright, but instead they continue to issue take downs around the release of a relevant new title.

I don't have problems with Nintendo doing that since I don't watch youtube videos of people playing a video game, but I get that some people will be upset about it. I think it says something about Nintendo's games if people will still buy them despite complaining about Nintendo's policies.

They have a point about wanting to maintain brand image, but then they also made two mario maker games...

Solution: Make the changes subtle different units that do essentially the same thing. Call it StellarCraft System. Make it a knock-off without infringing on any of the copyright. Envy doesn't endorse anything that could be a potential liability. Take everything Envy says with a grain of salt.
How are they supposed to piggy-back of brand recognition then???

Seem like whenever it involves money, you get nuked.

It’s easier to say that you are just drawing a fantasy and chatting with like-minded people by publishing it for free vs having a way for people to pay to read your fanfics.

Once there is a way to argue that your work has financial incentive. It became using someone’s IPs to generate income and copyright strike without warning.

I surmise this ff was very popular among the SC community and someone may have mentioned it while on Blizz forum.

Would changing units names etc... work for the author to bring back his story ? Or is it gone permanently ?

I did enjoy it.

AFAIK this is a thing for patents, with 'intensity' depending on region, but not copyright or trademarks. A very quick (so possibly dirty) search also doesn't net any results.

I loved this novel. I hope Microsoft burns that company down.

Possible copyright issues. This was asked earlier.
