Cloning, the ability to make more copies of yourself.

Jamie Madrox did it

Naruto Uzumaki did it.

MultiPaul did it.

Jin Bubaigawara (I hate his name) did it.

Mauler Twins did it.

Yet out of the five, only three (Jamie, Naruto and Paul) has a psychic link between their clones, allowing them to sort of shift their consciousness from bodies to bodies.

Twice is whacked but his ability does allow him the benefit to copy stronger people than him so ok.

Mauler Twins themselves are both strong and smart, but their style is more like SOMA's copying memories and personalities of OG so no sell.

So what truly makes cloning a very desirable skill is being pseudo unkillable, something that has been shown by DupliKate and by that extension, MultiPaul. It would appear that old age, plot induced stupidity and or a karmic weapon that kills all bodies all at once are the only methods to permanently put them down.

So by right this is a BBEG's superpower. Naruto and Jamie are on the weaker side because they still has the thing called "Original Body" aka the main body. Naruto could substitute with his clone IIRC while Jamie... I have no idea how this mutant/ changling's power works.

I know there are a ton of CNs tried to use this power as main power for MC, but they all suck and got axed.

Still, the concept of no main body is broken as hell and I can see why no author wants to do it for their MCs.

Ok, end of random rant on my end.

My explanation or the power of cloning?

If former, I apologise, word is not my strong form. I am all weak and useless.

If latter, think MCU Ultron, one brain multiple bodies.
:meowsip: Nah, it made quite sense, but maybe too many different categories of cloning combined into one and too many tangents. You would need to check each case on a case to case basis to make a judgement. It might also depend on the universe.

:blob_aww: In my stories, for example, I use the concept of magic resistance constant to prevent any major shenanigans as the cost of magic rises exponentially.

I treat cloning ability to be plot tied and only work once in a dire situation, where the character is effectively doomed and in need of proper sacrifice.

Though, there's also Bio-fission, the ability of splitting oneself and be their own independent body, such in case of Dr. Manhattan.

My mom did it.

But I won't.

I think DupliKate and Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel also could but not sure.
I thought DC Triplicate Girl can only split to three.

Nah.

I just want to talk about the thing in one big ball.

Because I get that different authors different interpretations.

Which is something I come to love and loathe.

Love because they can take the simple concept and mold into what they want.

Loathe because througout the process, pieces are bound to fall here and there.

Or in JP case, Rimuru.

For the record, I was damned shocked when emo angel transmigrator girl oneshotted the slime MC.

Then it turned out somehow MC splitted himself before entering the trap. For the record, handwave the fact that slimes in multiple works have that effect. But last time I checked, Rimuru did not use the skill until then.

For the record, the above work is the reason why i got so enthu with cloning, shared mind and pseudo unkillable.

Though to be honest, I am slowing my reading down at C125.

The synopsis is simple, MC is a newtype and has a cloning chamber.

Clones don't have a mind of its own nor a soul. So MC using his newtype power to control them like flesh puppets.

Also, he found out that he can body swap into a younger body at chp 2, hence my interest in the whole body swapping mechanic that most cloning ability lack.

I used Naruto and Jamie, but in actual fact they only share the memories and still has a main body that will end the entire line once killed.

Meanwhile, DupliKate, MultiPaul and now Li Qing (MC of the CN) has body swap mechanic where if one clone is alive, he is still alive.

Also, MC is functionally immortal due to him able to make young bodies for himself all the time.
