The Minecraft Movie

In case you missed it, a Minecraft movie has been announced for April of next year, starring Jack Black. The first trailer just released a couple days ago, and I'm honestly not sure what to think of it. Obviously, the movie should not be taken seriously in any capacity. The question is, does the director know that? If they go full on Army of Darkness-levels of insanity with the concept, it'll be amazing. Still a trainwreck, but a hugely entertaining spectacle of a trainwreck. But the generic quippy dialogue makes me think that's not likely. ("Oh great, now it's dark." Uh, yeah? That's called night time, nimrod!)

The trailer is a very significant improvement to the first one... but the movie doesn't seem to be making use of the franchise strongly enough. Especially the weird style and live action, but I mean... I did laugh at the yearning for the mine joke.

Honestly, the only reason I'm interested is because it's Minecraft.

It's got huge potential, the game mechanics and existing worldbuilding offer a ton of possibilities, but with the recent trends in movies and games, I don't have high hopes for the plot or the characters.

Looks promising, but the trailer looks unfaithful enough to the Minecraft, so I will probably only watch memes about it lol
