I need to pick one to write a report. Can anyone suggest some for me? Bonus scribblepoints if it has a long history of everyone hating it.

Does it have to be a useful language?
If not: APL.

The only programming language that will complain with the programmer not being polite enough.

I hate cobol, but that was mentioned.
But here's my favorite to hate on...
LISP
stands for LISt Processing.
fucking retarded.
this, coiiming from a guy that has no issues with everything from visual basic, C++, and even comfortable doing not just assembly code, but even programming in raw HEX format on digital electronics. and I can;t see the point of LISP.
LISP was the "darling" language way back when. Kinda like a movie that's a critics success,m the darling of the critics? But, just a solution in search of a problem.

Not obscure, but you can always try Brainfuck.

I ain't savvy on programming language, but when I saw that, I thought "Yeah, I can see why that'd be obscure."

Braincluck and Whitespace were already taken unfortunately. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw code in Whitespace; it was so much harder to read than even Braincluck! Lisp, APL, and Cobol were too mainstream in their time, so they are on our list of "not these". I ended up picking Forth for the report. Thanks all.
