Really Jealous Neighbors.

So as the title suggest, this is about my really dumb neighbors.

It started well with both our families close between 2017-2019. Only when it Hit the early stages of 2020 did a new neighbor moved in. The new one started out really humble, the mother working 2 jobs while multitasking with their 2 kids, while the dad sold fruits at the market. We were really close to them, I don't really know what happened, but somewhere in 2020 something clicked with those new neighbors.

Once they got a steady income suddenly their attitude turned sour, and I mean really sour. Flaunting the things they bought, the jewelry, even the phones, even though they still loved in a small house with only 2 rooms. They even scammed people to pay them money while they registered them to supposedly sign them up for the vaccination program, which of course she never did.

One morning though, I finally got my answers on why they got financially stable. My mom, out of the corner of her eye, saw the husband of that family use and selling illegal drugs. Thus this kickstarts one of the longest sagas i have.

During the span of the entire year that asshole of a family (excuse my words) would be the bane of my and my mother's existence. From slandering and claiming false information about my mother's small store, to bullying new tenants away if they refused to be close with the mother of that god forsaken family. That entire family is just unbearable. The breaking point finally happened when their drunktard of a father started throwing my mom's potted plants at our house after we asked them to lower the volume of their karaoke in their drinking party.

Me and my mom of course filed a restraining order so they wouldn't get near our house again and after that happened they suddenly wanted to move homes.

In comes the second family, the one i mentioned before that we were really close to back in 2017-2020. The mother of that family seemingly idolized the asshole family's mother. So she picked up that disgusting attitude of flaunting every single thing they buy. The mother of that family didn't slander my mom, but was secretly talking about things behind her back without her knowledge.

The most irritating part? She always try to one up me with her son. I got into college with a scholarship? Her son suddenly also wants a scholarship with the exact same course as I'm taking. My dad painstakingly building a roadbike for me? Her son suddenly also buys a mountain bike, then later a Motorcycle. Me recently getting a new laptop to write stories with and make a start on my Thesis? Their son suddenly gets a better laptop that's made for gaming.

It's like they're literally obsessed on trying to be better than me in every possible way. I bet if they knew I was writing stories in scribblehub, their son would suddenly write a story.

I know Im usually the crazy gun specialist you guys know, but I have to let this out. I'm interested in what y'all think of my current predicament.

There's an easy way to F with them, tho. You just have to start flaunting something you know their boy hates to see who enables this pissing contest. After that there are different options to either pacify or torture them further.

Sounds like they'll just screw themselves over. Though I would take pity on the son because he is probably being forced to live up to a standard that the parents deemed to be you.

Look, people who want to be better than you are easy to deal with. Let them. When they try to make you feel bad, congratulate them on success, then ignore them. The only thing they want is a rise out of you. Who cares? You are in a race against yourself, not someone else.

"I'm better than you" - So? There's always a bigger fish.
"What are you working on?" - Just happy grinding life.

Ignore them, and if they refuse to be ignored, ask them how happy they are. Focus on joy and how much time they spend with friends and family. When they brag go, "Awesome! I bet you are very proud of that!"

But what awesome things have you done? "Just grinding. Slow and steady wins the race. Working on that compound interest."

The most easiest thing is to do is just continuing living, ignoring them as jealous human beings. They're stuck in hubris of their making, and sooner or later it will fall into abyss. Certainly they have a crush on your mom, so advise her to go somewhere for a month or two and you'll see how they'll lose their shits over it. Treat them like a real life drama show and maybe prepare a restraining order (or two in this case) when they overstep the boundaries. Jealousy comes from attention (both sides) and attention feeds the jealousy.

Tell him this "Hey, I write stories. What bout you?" And then see how he's doing. Oh, it's prolly better to tell him that people who wrote their stories with their own hands is a chad.

Tbh, it's sad to see someone value themselves and their poor son, not only materialistically, but in comparison to someone else, that being their neighbor of all people. You can already tell by that they're not the most literate.

Ignore them? That's the best solution I can give you from what you've told.
Because either you saying the truth or something close enough to the truth but ultimately what they are doing is largely irrelevant to you, they are doing things to themselves not you and being overly concerned with them is kind of pointless.
Or you're seeing things where there are none or close to none and it'd do you good to not pay attention to it.
So either way the solution stays the same

Now that I think about it. That would work for a romance arc in a story.

The protagonist has a hated rival, every time the protagonist does something, the rival shows up to do it better. But in the middle of the story it becomes a romance plot when they they both realise that even if the rival is doing better than the protagonist, she still seems to define her life around him. Meanwhile he is free and his life has a meaning on its own merits.

(Flip the genders around as you see fit ofc.)
