Why can I not rate when the VPN is on? I get that some measures have to be taken against potential bot attacks (many of which I don't agree with like the MiTM cloudfare but you do you), but why can I not rate with a vpn?
I am literally signed in. What more do you want?

Couldn't you just...turn your VPN off, rate the story, then turn the VPN back on?

Don't we have to verify an email before we can post and stuff? I would think that would be enough. I can understand the need for privacy, but I'm not very smart about tech stuff. So I don't know for sure if I'd upvote this yet.

Maybe it's a measure to stop authors from artificially pumping their ratings up by using multiple accounts? the VPN could probably trick the site into thinking that the other accounts are from a different address/location rather that originating from one place. (but idk).

VPNs allow for multiple accounts to be made and greedy individuals with nefarious intentions, and way too much time on their hands, can and will buff up their own ratings while depleting the ratings of their competition.

VPN protection ensures that isn't allowed. Sure, you have a verified account, but it's just as easy to make ghost accounts with randomized emails to match. Logging in isn't "good enough", per say. It's just an initial layer of security and works to keep the basic bots out.

Of course, there is still the argument of IP Scrambling being a thing even without a VPN but if you're that desperate, you do you.
