Just watch the gameplay today. The mysterious vibe of the game, its dark, creepy atmosphere were changed into a more slick, casual air. Not that's anything bad. Change was necessary. Otherwise, this game would just be a graphic patch for the original, and if it's just about graphic patch then the community had already made a few mods that did it superbly.
Back to the thing I was talking about, I supposed by allowing more screen time for the MC and other characters like Yukari and Pharos during the first few moments of the game the devs decided to make p3r more appealing to modern audiences.
Yukari got a few lines that characterised her personalities. Originally we only got to know her more intimately when we fought the Magician. So now we got more answers. We also got to know that what she held on her hands were likely not a gun considering her dialogue. In the original, we knew nothing and were left to investigate the ambiguity. They really didn't want to get into any controversy these days. It's understandable considering how the persona brand had grown and attracted much more international attention.
Pharos acted out more instead of just sitting and conversing with you. You learnt quite a bit about his posture, gesture, and expression which is in contrast to the original where he just showed you unhinged expression. Also, his dialogue lacked a lot of attempts in trying to befriend the protag unlike in the original where he did put in effort to be friendly and to appear harmless.
MC acted the most in the new version. Not only did we got to watch his full-body motion while he walked in the cutscene, we got to control and play around with his walking, running, and dashing too. We also got to see his thought which is not presented in the original. They really tried to make him play the part of the silent protagonist instead of letting the obscurity do the job (we only saw him in a few scene before he got to the dorm in the original).
Not that I have any comment about that but it was very persona-5-like. So going the edgy and slick path instead of the mysterious and dark vibe. It's a good thing though since there will be a reason for me to keep the original.
