I don't know if it'll help the website overall but I feel that seeing people online (like how it is in the forums) would be indicative of how you can anticipate traffic on the main site. It might even help to lead authors to schedule when they can release chapters.
Of course, I'll only push for this feature if others find it sensible. Again, not sure if it would help in the long run but thought I'd put the request in anyway.
