I keep accidently logging myself out, as changing theme from dark to light button is right next to the log out button on mobile.

That would just leave us with a barrage of complaints about there "not being a logout button."

Seriously, they won't look.

OP doesn't want to remove the logout button, but instead, move it to the top of the page like how the exit button on every program is in the top corner. It is a bit problematic that the theme dropout menu is overlapping with the 'Log Out' button.

I just want it moved up on the drop down list it already is on. To the top of the list, changing its placement further up the list possibly above account settings. Or at least place the theme popup at the bottom of the list so I do not fat finger anything else when trying to use it.

skill issue.

Log Out buttons are typically found at the bottom of menu bars across most websites. Its placement is generic and what you would see on most other bars so this doesn't honestly sound like a SH issue to be resolved. Moving it, though, I think, could be considered if multiple other users also come out and show a concern/complaint. Otherwise, I wouldn't move it, personally.

If it is a problem, I can see it being moved to the right beside the Search button and maybe swapping the Search/Alert buttons to alleviate misclicks/taps, but you're going to have the same problem no matter where you put it in that case since it'll always be "next to" something. Aesthetically, putting it beside the 'Forum' button on the main bar is super ugly. While also a solution, it'll look like shit.

For something like this, just be better. Be more precise with your taps, as no matter where you put it, it's going to be a difficult endeavor not to suddenly find yourself inconvenienced. Or just decide on what theme you want and let it be. Not quite a consumer-friendly answer but in terms of broad scale, it's in the best spot for it's nature.

Overall:
  • It relates to the account, so it's in an associated position.
  • It's in an aesthetically pleasing location where it can be assumed to be found in comparison to other websites.
  • It requires a prior click on the account tab in order to bring up the button, so it takes effort already to click on it.
  • It's far enough down on the bar that you'd have to fiddle with the Themes to hit it by accident. In this instance, most users pick a theme and leave it once they find one that they like.
An additional pop up box, like Blob mentioned, would be a solution if it's an actual problem. And that is a possible addition regardless of where it's placed. This way Users can "confirm" that they want to log out, rather than miss and then proceed to suffer.
