Taxes are necessary for civil society. Now the amount isn't as necessary, you just need enough for the government to function. I'd probably limit taxes to 10% the annual overall income of every citizen and get rid of property and sales tax altogether, but I wouldn't get rid of taxes completely. You need police, judges, legislators, and so on, and that money needs to come from somewhere.

Another fun idea would be to make it so that you can choose which parts of the government your taxes are going to, so that you feel like you're actually getting what you want with your money.
