I actually really enjoyed the story and I love the way FromSoft tells their stories through random lore tidbits scattered throughout the world in items, conversations, and what-have-you, but I also enjoy piecing things together and I'm an avid mystery fan, so there's some MASSIVE bias. Most people just watch a Vaati video if they care about learning the story. That said, I felt like some parts of the gameplay were kind of mid and there were too many reused mobs that just got HP inflated and slapped down as random ass bosses. Ruined the immersion for me.

I didn't like the story since it is banal and vulgar. All jokes aside, I think it is banal and vulgar. I also likED the way FromSoft tells their stories before, but I feel like it has to evolve. Miyazaki told multiple times in interviews that they wanted to make ER easier to understand for people, but they didn't. Nothing changed. The only thing that changed is the lore got more generic and vulgar. And that's not even a one-tenth of all the problems I have with ER.

The majority of the story was written with heavy guidance from G.R.R. Martin from what I've read about its creation, so Miyazaki is spared from some of the blame. I can definitely see where your contention is with the "vulgarity" of the plot, with the Mohglestation stuff, Marika's weird abandonment of her family to smash Rennala and then immediately dip after (??? wtf was up with that), and the weirdass shit with Seluvis. I think Marika could've been written better and her reasons for doing what she did more justified, but I doubt we'll get anything on that. FromSoft likes to keep it vague.

I can't unsee Martin's hand... BUT, he along with Miyazaki said that Martin did alsmot nothing. Created world and backstory. Did it affect the rest of the game? Probably. Yet it was not heavy guidance. It was some guidance.

As for vulgarity, BB has some similar themes, but I've never felt like it is vulgar. At all. Even though it has a heavy emphasis on giving birth to children, certain enemies and so on. The only vulgar thing I can think of is when Gherman tells the hunter that the doll will do 'anything.' Even then, considering he is the only one who does it, it makes him look creepy rather than vulgar. At least for me. But even if not, this is the only occasion of something vulgar happening.

Lastly, it is still banal. Demon and Dark Souls were not banal. BB was not banal. Sekiro kinda is, but not really. While ER is Game of Thrones fanfic.

Bloodborne is still my favorite entry in the Souls genre honestly. I'm a sucker for eldritch themes done right.
