How is a reader counted as "dropping" a story?

I apologize in advance if this information is available somewhere else, but I did try searching for it without success. How is a reader "drop" of a story calculated? Is it someone who began reading the story but does not return to it within a specific period of time? Or is it an option a reader specifically initiates? Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer and will share it.

From what I understand, it is if they move it to a reading list with the "Dropped" type. Basically it let's them keep track of something they decided they are done with. So they don't accidentally happen across it later and decide to read it without remembering that they already dropped it.

Thanks for the reply. I had looked where you suggest but it is still not clear to me whether a reader can "drop" a book without reading it, only after beginning to read it, or only if they had it on a "to read" list. I did not want to inadvertently give someone a "dropped" rating by experimenting to find my own answer.

Thanks again for the response.

Got it. Thank you!

Readers can put a story into any of those lists at any point of time. They can put a novel into a reading list, and then move it to dropped without reading a single chapter. They can also remove it from dropped.
