Come on, XD I though the degenerate tag was just a ruse to deceive us. But you really live by your motto.

i do read some of the other stories, but none really stand out enough to recommend to others.

worst of all, the ones i like tend to get discontinued sooner or later.

I can relate. If the stories are good, they are normally not popular as they aren't made for the fast living web novel crowd that doesn't appreciate quality very much.

The authors get depressed then. Why should they continue their story when they can have much more success with low effort productions? :blobtaco:

I say it again, actual quality is not enough appreciated by the online community.

couldn't agree more with that.

i hope these authors will get the appreciation they deserve, though i think, if they really like writing the story and want to share it to everyone, they should continue until it's done. more and more people will appreciate their effort and dedication, that way.

i think it's these kind of authors who tend to write the best work for me. at least, it's a mindset that i respect the most, in an Author.

Author are people too though. Sadly, they can't live from likes and comments alone. Eventually, they need money if they want to settle on the path of the author.

i'm speaking for those who write more as a hobby and have a day job, like me.

but i guess, some people want to go that way and i also wish the best for them (though i can't send them money nonetheless 'cuz reasons, i can't even make online purchase atm.).

True enough. I was speaking more about the Asian webnovelists that write "professionally". If you aim to get money, high personal quality standards can be hindrance. Especially, in the case of Chinese authors. They get paid per chapter or words by their publishers, so you can imagine what it does to the plot of their cultivation novels. They will ride the dead horse as long as it gives chash.

And in general, many of these novelists don't even seem capable of writing. Much of the work is actually done by their editors behind the scenes that often act as ghostwriters. :blob_reach:

The only thing anchoring these ghostwriters to the world of the living is that they are allowed to write.

If they can't becime become merchants coz they're poor in math, they write webnovs instead. Hence, those works usually have wrong chaptering, character stats don't add up, and auction scene bids are inconsistent.

They can be pretty desperate, too, when word count doesn't meet the quota. Resorting to padding with author's notes while appealing for subscriptions while they're at it.

It's a dog-eat-dog monkey business.

I'm not a funny guy, but funny things happen to me from time to time. I sometimes use that as a basis for my comedy.

I do write comedies but I find that making jokes aren't that easy.

I'm curious what you guys do to find your inspiration. :D
When did it ever become easy? Well, go for jokes that make you laugh. If it doesn't make you laugh. Try telling it to yar mom, dad, sis, bro, besty, cats and....doggos. If they laugh, ya have a good joke. Anyway, it's subjective. PS: Especially if ya manage to make yar cat or doggo laugh. It's good stuff.:blob_uwu:

i don't really write jokes intending to write them. funny situations that naturally come up feel better than a forced joke...

What does the word funny mean? :blob_neutral:

It is a word that describes among common people a feeling of positivity caused by an external impulse. :blob_aww:

Compare it to the feeling of power you enjoy as a villainess when you torment your helpless victims.

I actually think a bit of comedy is necessary for many stories of all kinds.

Comedy is hit and miss for everyone though. Some people will laugh and others will just keep going. I think about the beats when I make a comedy. Timing is extremely important. Your goal is to make others laugh and not always at the "punch line." You want it to be unexpected but hilarious all at the same time. All about the beats in which you make a scenario happen.

I rarely write pure comedy but when I do, if I don't laugh while writing it then I take it out. I write more "situational" comedy rather than "punch lines." I normally put some comedic parts in my story so my readers can better connect with my characters as people. If your characters can laugh and cry together the impact of your story will be much deeper.

The closest thing I come up with so far as humour is just stream of consciousness cute character stuff, exaggeration, and juxtaposition.

Like one of my favorite little moments of humour has two characters arguing about cleaning up a room.

One character - "I can't explain it, but the objects in that room have a life to them.”
Other character - “It’s called mold.”

And that came about from a character having this overly serious, mystical but correct sense about them and the other being overly practical. The contrast of personalities is often a great vein for humour.

I'm not that great at it but I do write the, "straight man" and "adventurous" character.

90% of every teenage comedy movie, adult buddy movies, and buddy cop movies uses this formula that dates back to ancient plays.

Basically you have a character that's a straight guy who's like, "No, we shouldn't be doing these crazy things!" and his adventurous buddy is like, "come on, it'll be great, stop being a wuss."

and of course the straight man winds up in his buddy's shenanigans whether he wants to or not.

This is a standard comedy format. The conflict of values between the characters makes for great laughs. They can have light-hearted arguments with snappy one liners, etc.

I'm not saying write a comedy, I'm just saying you can use this formula in every genre in any setting.
