Writing Prompt "Girlfriend repellent"

An idea for a romance short story that has been stuck in my head for some time:

Two guys, one is the main character, the other has a girlfriend that the main character also likes.

The Main character finds a mysterious bottle labeled "girlfriend repellent," and after some testing to make sure it actually works, tries to break up the couple by dousing the other guy in it.

Only to find out that... It doesn't work on fiancés, and they got engaged the day before.

Is this story NTR or is this a try to reverse a comedy story into a tragedy by changing the point of view character?

Ngl doesn’t sound like a very fun read. I think it would be hard to find an mc like that likeable

Sounds like a magic-based version of "My Best Friend's Wedding" (a terrible waste of the lead actress IMO). Ostensibly a rom-com but really just a nasty dramedy.
