Have you read a harem story that you felt such sympathy/ empathy for the characters you were brought to tears?
(Reverse/)Harem story can be fertile ground for heartbreak, have you ever felt emotionally moved by the heartbreak of the characters?
What's the story?
What happened?
Who to?
I myself only have very vague memories of it... I think I remember when one of the girls (Satsuki Kitaoji) in Ichigo 100% got rejected in the end I felt really bad for her. I am like he doesn't like you move on! Plez~

Mushoku Tensei (SPOILER ALERT)
The big "twist" of FUTURE SELF coming to "MC"
Its heart crushing.
The author boil the frog(reader) in warm water with how the "future self" tell what happens later.
Hearing that "he" will simply follow the advice of Kami, to "only open the door of cave"
But it was the mouse with a crystal disease that only inflict PREGNANT WOMEN. (blueteacher FL is btw pregnant)
So MC will do whatever it takes to get a cure.
But only church has it.
So he will get help of priest guy (?) to infiltrate it.
BUT it didnt go as easily.
His friend die during escape (and cause the slut elf that had crush on the priest, to be angry and leave).
But only to discover that the "disease" crystalised too far. Hence is dead.
Breaking his heart into pieces.
This.
Is.
the.
beginning.
of the despair.
on the pitiful.
life of the remaining years of Rudeus Greyrat to loneliness until old age.

ah.
So you want the part about the "girl being rejected" ?
hm.......
To be honest i am not crying for this. BUT i feel very HEART WRENCHING about it and sad.
like the "childhood friend silent girl" in TheWorldGodOnlyKnows
OH WAIT.
I think i got one. (not harem though)
Its the CN : Perfect Superstar (NU)
Its not harem bc its era where harem is very frowned upon + its urban.
(AND the trend of "cute girl/childhood friend girl" never get the man/MC and the FLS everywhere are mature ladies but at least they were original characters and not like nowadays where they always use this chinese actress or some other one)
But there is this "cute girl singer" that was helped during the audition with MC. And she is a close friend.
At very end.
She is crying, in the sides behind the curtains, looking at the MC, as MC is singing, doing a last concert to say goodbye to his fans.
She knew she never had a chance hence why she kept being just "a friend", and never confessed to the op MC.

Not really 'heartbreak' in the traditional sense, but Saito's sacrifice amidst Tristania's retreat from Albion in Zero no Tsukaima brought me to tears and got me hooked on the isekai trope ever since. Also, Derflinger's sacrifice in the end of the light novels made me view 'him' as more than a 'sentient' sword.
As for Mushoku Tensei, I read the webnovel version from Baka-Tsuki, and that one reeked of 'family-centric' sentiments. I love the story's direction towards the end, including the 'extra' chapters showing Rudeus' treatment of his family. And though Paul is somewhat of an ass there, he's still lovable compared to the anime version, or so I heard. So it really left an 'empty void' in me when I read that chapter where he died.
For the traditional heartbreak...hmm, I couldn't remember one that stood out among the multitudes I read. Ai Yori Aoshi comes close, but it's not really that focused on the other FMCs. I guess more than 'emotionally-involved,' the feeling I had was annoyed when the ending of that manga 'We Never Learned' got the MC hooked up with the FMC that was the least-developed, character-wise.
