I've watched until episode 6 of the first season.
The occasional choppy frames are a bit distracting.
I don't like the switchblade weapon as it feels extremely impractical, almost like a joke weapon. Also that grappling hook weapon that was able to act like a kusarigama with the way it was able to break through that tree trunk. It felt impractical. I mean, it's not a blunt weapon, it's a fucking grappling hook. It doesn't have enough concentrated mass. And while I do like the idea of using only a shield as a weapon, it doesn't really work. I think fights would have been far better if they didn't feel the need to use flashy or unique weapons.
The B plot with the obvious evil guy doing evil things. I'm completely uninterested in that part.
Out of the trio of the elf girl and princes, the only one I like is the little kid because it didn't feel like he was trying to get the audience to like him. I get it, the elf girl is afraid of water and the secrets and whatever. The other older prince isn't good at anything so he wants to be good at magic. It just didn't feel organic enough. I mean, the older prince guy had to literally say his motivation. It was so ugh.
The show feels a bit too slow paced for me. Most of the characters seem annoying. The last airbender characters were endearing and balanced each other out. Aang's a kid with a bunch of responsibility thrust upon him. Sokka wants to find his worth as a man and nonbender. Katara wants to waterbend but can't because she has no resources, but once she does find a place to teach her turns out they're sexist. They all want something. The dragon prince characters feel cliche or without direction. Some of the jokes are meh.
The background art and fight choreography are generally great, though.
