I just finished reading Deception, Domination, and Dragons by Cambrian and he had to add self-insert in the title and the synopsis because apparently its not a tag despite being super common. In the story, this author writes himself into the Skyrim universe. I could be wrong, but I feel like its a common enough trope that it might deserve its own tag.

Seems reasonable demand.
I mean, there are bunch of tags for random specific stuff already in SH, so yeah.
And not sure if there is already a "self-insert" series in SH, but if there is, then indeed need a tag for it.

ps : AO3 got this tag too

Dante didn't need it for his terrible inferno trilogy, and I think it'd be pretty difficult to properly define and pin down a genre like that without direct author input. That is something all other genres don't require, separating it in a way

seems redundant. all stories here are self inserts of the authors
Its pretty often that an author writes a character only he or she relates to. but in this case the author didn't make a character, he put himself as the MC, the author was the MC. I'm sure there are other stories like that here and we don't realize due to the lacking tag.

You're not wrong, we would need author input on whether a story is that genre. kind of like when they define the relationship as poly and not harem (harem is a type of poly even though not all poly is harem)
