I decided it might be fun (or a terrible idea) to stream the writing of Amelia Thornheart over at Twitch.
Aiming to be live at least 4 times a week. Not sure about optimal times but I'll figure it out.

We have cozy thunderstorm sounds with typing ASMR and a crackling fireplace! We also have :blob_cookie: 's!

Figure there are some people who might like the motivation to 'write along'.

Oh, and it'll also give you an insight to just how many mistakes an author makes when writing. Luckily we have this magical thing called Grammarly which keeps my novel and writing alive!

Link here. I'm live now at the time of posting and will be for a few hours!

Hillarious xD

You commentate too? Oh, also, what's your streaming schedule? I can't join you rn, maybe next session.

No mic as I don't want to ruin the ASMR experience!

I'm UK based, but I see a lot of comments saying to stream late to account for the US audience, which makes up a majority of the readers on SH and twitch viewers. So whatever I decide on will hopefully account for that :blob_uwu:

Ideally I'll stream 5-6x a week at the same time - depends how the cards fall I suppose. I just moved house and made some plans to start a game studio with a friend so my schedule needs to be figured out :blob_sleep:

"Ideally". Realistically, you have like 3-4 times to livestream based on your current situation. Moving from a house, setting up a game studio, sounds like some things on the list to complete.
So, I take that you don't stream tomorrow. Oh, and, what's the time on your end?

I watched two or three sessions of Knights of the Dinner Table (comic book/magazine) being drawn and written. That was interesting (especially when the writer kept asking for facts from the viewers, like "which issue did this character first appear in?" and got about three ballpark answers immediately and two correct ones in minutes (usually about two issues off from the guesses).

Not sure a "pure" writing one would be quite as much fun but could be interesting.

I've heard that twitch has a very niche, but present writing community. People within it like to cheer others on, but it doesn't draw much of an audience, so it's not really as lucrative for monetization as say Patreon might be.

Personally, I switch tabs a lot and spend a lot of time looking at my half a dozen notebooks worth of storyplanning, so I imagine my writing is too chaotic for streaming it.

I'm streaming again now! (

I think I'll aim to start 6/7pm UK time, which should open up to a lot of US viewers as well.

For me it doubles as encouragement for keeping a schedule - it also might possibly motivate others to write along side which would be awesome!

I think twitch would fill a different approach to Patreon. Besides, I don't know how I'd ever build up a backlog big enough to justify a patreon :sweating_profusely:

If your writing is skilled enough and popular enough, you don't have to have that big of a backlog. I know plenty of novels from RoyalRoad where the authors have only 5 chapters ahead of RoyalRoad on their Patreon. They post 3 free chapters a week and then only have to write 3 new chapters each week to keep their Patreon stocked up on chapters. Those same authors still make $1k+ / month from Patreon alone. If your writing is less popular then you can certainly try to offer more chapters worth of backlog, but it won't fix the initial problem of lacking an audience, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Oh, that's so cool.

I tried to do this, but people kept asking me questions, and I did more talking than working.

But I'd definitely be down to write while someone else is streaming!

Could you link me to a few RR authors who do this? Would like to see how they go about it. Thanks :)

Sorry it took so long to reply, I don't check the forums often. I have a Patreon myself, if you'd like to check it out. "The Game At Carousel" and "Super Supportive" are some bigger name books. Honestly, all you really have to do is go to RoyalRoad's site and scroll down to best ongoing then click the books before selecting the donate option, which will give you the option to open their Patreon page.
