Are lightnovels with urban setting, dungeon gates and world power ranking popular here?

I posted a lightnovel, it's plot is like it has two overpowered mc who are bestfriend and they are not really righteous heros saving the world but villains who wants to dominate and rule the whole world.

And it's not going viral like I thought it would...

I'm a total newbie as an author, help me out guys, and give me feedbacks.

I will love to hear your thoughts about my lightnovel and improve it...

Name: The SSS-Rank Devourer and Godslayer: He Who Devours Eternity & He Who Slays Infinity.

Current chapters: 5 (Total 6.5k words)

:blob_hmm: Why did you think it would go viral?
Well you know, after seeing over 200 animes and reading 300+ manhwas and maybe more than 1000+ lightnovels and fanfictions of different genres I was trying to find something like solo leveling that isn't so fast paced and more cleverly arrogant villain and overpowered and this part of being above all goes long enough, Idk if you understand what I'm trying to say...
anyway I thought this type of lightnovel was maybe searched by many in different websites...
So I thought it would go viral if I write one such novel myself and be famous and rich....

- newbi-author imaginations?
I'd say they're more popular on Webnovel than they are here. But that doesn't mean you should stop writing, so long as you're consistent and have something to tell, people will come.
I tried to post in webnovel too but, it wasn't accepting my cover page image...so I posted it here only....any other websites you know where I can post my lightnovel?
Cover – Synopsis – Strategy
Have you checked out my lightnovel? Can you point it out specifically, which part should be changed to attract more readers...I would love readers opinions...

I would say one of the biggest points is the cover.

It's just too generic.

The art style isn't eye catching, it's way too dark brightness-wise, and seeing the cover among many other stories here made it blend to the background way too easily.

I'd say find a better cover. Since you're aiming for a light novel feel, why not try an anime art style? Commission an artist If you got the money, but if you're going to use AI, at least do research on how to use them properly.

Ngl I only look for ones of that genre with a female protagonist. Male ones are too much of the same thing most of the time. Personal opinion tho.

I'm not a fan of dungeon gate urban fantasy. They tend to have sloppy worldbuilding, by which I mean the reason gates exist is generally "So my character can slay monsters as a day job and go home to a familiar Tokyo suburban apartment after, but I haven't given any thought as to how the gates actually work or why they appear. I just say they do." It's too immersion breaking for me. Putting that aside, I very rarely try reading a story that still has <30k words.

That and barely a thousand words per 'chapter'. at 6 chapters? the book has barely started, and high-flying chapter numbers doesn't actually improve things.

6 chapters at 3-5k words for chapter? I could see being irritated by a lack of interest, but at less than a thousand words per chapter? You are barely through the prologue of most books.

?Okay I will try to increase the no. of words in every chapter??
Copying popular genres =/= going viral

It's like seeing someone win the Olympics gold in 400m running and thinking, if you use the same shoe, you’ll be able to match that time.

Welcome to reality.
Well...the idea of Dungeon gate is indeed copied, and this novel is about how me and my friend will do if a dungeon gates suddenly appears in reality... imaginative stuff

What you said is correct, even I don't read novels with less than 30-40 chapters...??and the reasons for dungeons to exist...this is an imp point you mentioned, I will work on that in my future chapters...to make this novel logical and not a plot hanging in air.

That's implicit in the Dungeon Gate trope.

The Dungeon Gate trope takes extremely little work to invoke.

Which means you'll have to work harder on the other story elements, if you want it to soar. Save Scumming and Dungeons & Deliveries do well at this.

99% of syosetu's and kakuyomu's writers who do Dungeon Gate stuff? They put insufficient work into the other bits, and the manga based on such is completely forgettable.

Dungeon Gate bolted onto other stuff can be more interesting.

Honestly don't need to worry too much about word count as long as it flows well and you get your thoughts through. Planning everything out ahead of time is pretty important too, don't just update instantly as you finish a chapter or something. Make sure you know what you are writing, what you are moving toward, etc.

Side note: If you are writing about something like dungeons and gates, story should be unique and be able to hook people's attention. Things like the title of the story to the synopsis all matter a lot. Also the characters need to be unique as well. One of the things i dislike about male protagonists in a story is that they always go through things that have been overused far too often. Similar plots, similar backstories, similar families, powers, everything. The male protagonist stories that I tend to read(even though I mainly read female protagonist stories) are ones that have hooked me to the story through the title and/or synopsis. I check it out from looking at the title, then i either stay or leave based on synopsis and first few chapters.

Sidenote #2 and shameless plug(Which also works as an example): Take a look at my story :blob_cookie: :blob_cookie: . Title hooks and synopsis hooks too.
