The Use of A.I. in writing novels

Even AI co-writing is allowed as long as it's not over 50% -- all my stories are around half and half in draft form, but I edit them as well. It's faster than just writing by myself, but not the "near instant" of typing in a short prompt and getting 1000 words out, which is what leads to...

    Y/N in stories on here

Even if some site banned Y/N stories they're basically just a slight variation on "you" stories, as in "second person."

    Bullying in Fiction

It depends on what your school is like. I went to school with a lot of kids from low-income families who were being actively recruited to sell drugs or join criminal enterprises (in high school, but even in middle school sometimes). They often did not care at ALL about getting in trouble, and...

I am joining the 2k club

I checked my average and it’s either 2500 words a day (but I write 1400 and an AI writes the other 1100) or 300 words a day. The AI is a constant block breaker that’s like having a 5x multiplier, and I suppose I could carefully eliminate/rewrite its 1100 and slow down a bit, but feels more...

Is there anything that can be done about troll ratings?

I got one like this yesterday on my main series, who didn’t even bother to check off that they’d read “all the chapters.” Just followed, clicked one star, then hid profile. Before they did that, their profile showed having read none of the story (only the “tags and content warnings” which is my...

    Fallen Angel Opposite

Nope, it’s not the king talking. The whole first part of the book of Isaiah is a prophecy written by the author (Isaiah) about the fall of the kingdom, and the section is in the form of a letter TO the king. The king isn’t a character who speaks, or anything like that, it’s not a story in the...

    Fallen Angel Opposite

Yes, but this whole thing is addressed not to a devil, but to the King of Babylon; Isaiah's prophecy is about the destruction of the kingdom Babylon and how it will affect and benefit the people of Judah and the tribe of Jacob (the Hebrews). So this passage is a long taunting song about how the...

    Fallen Angel Opposite

It's fairly interesting to go back to the source texts -- I mean, the Hebrew Bible part about "Lucifer" is actually not about a devil or fallen angel at all; it's a warning to the King of Babylon, and "son of morning" (Lucifer, in Latin -- not Hebrew) is more of a metaphor than anything else...

    Fallen Angel Opposite

The whole idea of fallen angels is originally from the 1667 angel/demon/eden epic, Paradise Lost, by John Milton. And if you read the original it’s pretty clear why it’s not symmetrical. My main series messes around with this territory but I can’t say much without spoiling future chapters and plot.

    Scribblehub traffic with "empty" referrer?

That all makes sense… i guess if a user is VPN protected and clicks through the chapters of a story then all their hits might show as empty referers instead of “inside the story,” often the biggest referrer.

    Scribblehub traffic with "empty" referrer?

Has anyone ever seen a weird spike of traffic with an "empty" referer? Usually there's some Scribblehub traffic from the front page, from within the story ("clicking next chapter") etc but "empty" is a minor amount. Is this a... bookmark? Not a big deal but just curious as to whether this is a...

    Pick Your Modern Item

Bicycles were invented when most roads were dirt tracks or cobblestone, and there's still a reason they caught on; you can ride them across fields, too. Anything a wooden-wheeled transport coach or cart could travel on can be handled by a bicycle. I mean, people been using horse-drawn carts and...

    Do you write genius characters?

Do you think Arthur Conan Doyle was as smart as Sherlock Holmes, one of the most renowned “genius characters” in fiction? He was not, and made a point of saying so. You can “reverse engineer” a smart person coming up with a solution or answer to a problem if you are the author who’s created the...

What do you consider to be generic Isekai Fantasy?

For me, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, ten books published between 1977 and 2013, are the most prototypical isekai fantasy, since isekai is very obviously a genre that has a Japanese name but massive western fantasy influence. Stephen Donaldson’s books have everything: incredibly annoying...

Proof that multiple highly popular authors are botting to boost view counts

My first reaction to the OP was… what?! How do I get an hourly traffic graph like that? My second was… oh wow. That’s the daily graph. Wow that’s embarrassing, facepalmaxxing

Authors ~ Review your own work?

Naturally, if you rate yourself 5/5 you're deliberately or accidentally overlooking the flaws in your own work and don't mind being perceived as arrogant, boastful and self-aggrandizing, which probably means that you are. That's fine I guess. However, if you rate yourself lower 1/5 or 2/5 you...

Same, but I'm sure I would do something stupid with magic and end up turned inside out in a hell dimension or something like that
