Chinese culture lesson: when we celebrate CNY, we call it 过年, which means “passing the year.” But 年 Nian is also the name of a mythical beast that terrorizes your village every year. Since it’s the year of the horse, my zodiac, it’s gonna target me.
But Nian also has major weaknesses: fire, loud noises, and the color red. So that’s why we wear red and display fireworks and firecrackers on CNY. I’m also supposed to wear red underwear too. I guess it’s because Nian is a pervert.
