I think if it's from the pov of the driver, the only thing that matters is using their genitals with the intention to physically exchange gametes (real or imagined) for breeding.

I think loosening the boundaries of categories and definition isn't bad for the intention of creative research. But it performs generally as a flaw when it comes to communication because the prerequisite for exchange is having a common language to base the interaction.
