I would stop looking for useless feedback.

My current story has gotten quite far, but Ive received too many negative feedback comments on it, but all stuff I agree with it. It hits my own negatives views towards my story and pulls the drive to continue out from under me.

That's pretty normal with any creative domain. You just have to continue improving and making it better. If you can continue with the harsh feedback, you will come out stronger and better at writing.

Ive realized that the entire opening to my story, approximately seven chapters, is terrible. I cant even revise it because it destroys the rest of I change it meaning my options are limited.

You can start an entirely new story.

I would love to finish something some day, or at least write something people like to read. I put so much work into this story already that dropping it would be devastating.

I could try and redo it from the ground up, but my attempts to make my writing more engaging have failed.

Why did you start writing in the first place? I think taking a break and circling back to the beginning might resolve some of your troubles.

Because I like writing. Its my hobby.

Unfortunately, I was pressured into publishing and now I have to make a choice of struggling forward or giving up and becoming just another author who drops their work without completing it.

Ive gotten in a bad spot.

There's nothing bad with not finishing your story. I think it's somewhat toxic mentality that people pick up unwittingly. If writing is your hobby, you should treat is as such.

It's like going on a bike after groceries, and accidentely get mixed up with a bicycle race. You forget yourself and start racing with them. But if you stop for a minute and look around, you will understand you are not racing. You are going after a cup of coffee and a sandwich.

The thing about not finishing the story is that I have never finished a story before and the more I drop them the worse I feel about it.

On top of that, now that I have published it, dropping it will be a permanent stain.

I also have no idea what I could do to fix where I have failed. There is no easy way to adjust and salvage things.

It's not a stain. As much as I love SH, we have to be objective here. SH isn't a professional site for writing that will leave an actual stain on your rep as an author. It's a small site for those who write as a hobby. The amount of dropped stories here are more than finished ones. No one will blame you if you don't finish this one. Don't let outside factors ger between you, your hobby, and having fun.

I suppose I am just really conflicted.

As for your unfinished pieces, treat them as practice pieces for example. There's nothing wrong with practicing.

Ive been practicing for a long time. I should probably try and make use of it someday.

Now you have more information on what to do and not do. You learned a valuable lesson. Your next practice piece will be better. Rinse and repeat. Also, writing is a hobby, writing is fun, since when writing equals to finishing a story? There are people here who post collection of random short stories and feel good about it. Because that's their hobby, to write.
