Not so common. And the only thing those malicious people can say on the actual topic is that they feel translations should be banned. No logic, no arguments, only feelings. Translations should be banned, fanfics shouldn't. Why? They feel that way. Since they can't address this problem, all they can do is derail the thread into an idiotic conversation about how laws in the world work.

It might've been related to the topic if they actually talked about copyright laws with proper examples, precedents, links, and so on. But they are more interested in derailing the thread, so they would rather talk about Mongolian laws, the CONCEPT of law, and other unrelated things.

What do translations have to do with fanfics other than the fact that they're both taking from an IP? and furthermore, how does one being allowed to be monetized have anything to do with the fact that the other is allowed to exist?

Seems like not only whataboutism but also a completely different topic. Did they WANT the conversation to shift to a move to ban fanfics from the site all together?

The thing with translations is that they weren't against the rules here until I pointed it out and started mass reporting translations.

What they wanted was to shift conversation from "Monetizing fanfics is illegal and it damages SH" to "Copyright laws aren't real laws." And they did it. They derailed the thread into locking it.

Kinda a pointless endeavor though. You could literally just make another thread, and their plan is foiled.

First of all, they will keep doing it, because they feel good about getting brownie points from their circle. Secondly, it is kind of pointless. I honestly thought more people would be on my side, or at least more people would be open to dialogue. I was wrong. And looking at the state of things, how every day a third of trending consists of fanfics, I see tacit consent.

I'm not very smart, so I can't do much. I wanted to make SH better with what I came up with, and things I can do. Way back I did feedback threads. Then I started reporting translations that flooded SH. I spent a bit of my free time on gathering data for my FF thread during 50 days. Now I'm tired.

At the very least, Corty, a popular fanfic creator, was on your side. I see room for change of culture if you keep going at it but not much to be said if you're already blackpilled.

Honestly, it's an understandable mindset. If you spend months coming up with a way to persuade the masses and you're met with nothing but apathy, opposition and bad faith actors everything seems pointless.

Hats off to you for trying to inspire change on something you're passionate about.

I just want to be clear that I didn't take my position to "circlejerk". Your position was far more popular than mine, and the numbers clearly indicate you have more support. My stance is grounded much more in a set of rights that I believe authors have, and I'm very cautious of movements of the majority against a minority. I look at issues in terms of "who does this proposal harm" and "who does this proposal benefit"
minacia

I did not believe that the benefit outweighed the harm, and I stated my case. If you couldn't handle any disagreement (especially with number of upvotes clearly indicating support for you), that's really your own problem for not being able to tolerate other points of view.

Bro, you already killed his thread. Let tthe poor man brood.

He reported his own thread and asked for it to be locked himself... I have no sympathy for that and subsequently complaining he can't talk about it as well as framing every single person who disagrees with him as "disingenuous". My beliefs are my own, and his beliefs are his, and we are each entitled to holding our beliefs respectfully.

Being a disingenuous person is my job. You take my job away from me. Now I am jobless.

Respectfully, fuck you @minacia

@minacia I didn't report my own thread, I reported you and other people for derailing the thread. Moreover, I voiced out that I'm going to report YOU for derailing the thread.

You are once again act disingenuous by saying I call everyone who disagree with me disingenuous. I didn't call Omnii like that, I didn't call JayMark like that, I didn't call Shrimp like that.

If you can't comprehend what the thread is about, and think I'm derailing it, you are probably lobotomized and should be restricted from making any decisions that can affect other people.

Lastly, let's not pretend you weren't the first one to call me toxic and jealous.
