Fanart is generally less commercial, but it's still illegal. The only time lawsuits and action is taken is when mass production is happening illegally.
Companies taking action against fan art looks much worse for them than an author taking down a light novel.
@SailusGebel A tad extreme. What I'm saying is disconnected from your thread. I'm not making an argument for or against it. Simply sharing my observation on the state of monetized fan works in general, which leads me to believe that there'll always be this unresolved ambiguity about it, and so, in general, I'll let sleeping dogs lie.
@Prince_Azmiran_Myrian People looking into Bohemian Grove are barking up the wrong tree. If they really want to expose the elite, they should infiltrate a furry con hotel room.
It's not extreme at all. Just because these people break rules, doesn't mean we should break them as well. If other people drunk drive doesn't mean you should or can drunk drive. If other people don't clean up after their dogs, doesn't mean you shouldn't. If other people litter, doesn't mean you should throw trash under your feet.
Again. This isn't about your thread. I don't give a shit how the rules lean. I'm just saying that defining what is or isn't okay to monetize can get blurry sometimes, in a general sense, not on the Scribblehub Forums. So I, the guy typing this, am not really bothered by the concept of monetized fan works. If you want to see this as a moral failing, then go ahead, brother. Let that righteous indignation hang.
