the short answer is yes.

any media you consume (watch, read, hear) affects you consciously and subconsciously. the latter more so. there is a whole science built around it, specifically geared towards marketing. the ads and billboards you see for 0.1 seconds have a significant and intended effect on your subconscious.

the same thing applies to novels (and any form of media really) regardless if the effect is intentional or not.

trans self-discovery novels are practically wish-fulfillment. you get a neatly wrapped dose of serotonin stripped of all the 'bad'. the protagonist is rewarded for transitioning and is showered with love and support after. it is borderline propaganda.

be mindful of what you consume.

Satire? It's a very unfinished answer, if not.

People can be suckers for tragedy and still not want it in their lives. I like Girls love stories despite not being a lesbian, which is to say there could be any reason people like something. The question becomes: Why do you like something? If I like to imagine myself in the wish-fulfillment trans fantasy as the protagonist, then I'm likely trans, but any conclusion drawn from the fact alone is misleading.
