:blob_neutral: In fact, that would make the papacy the older monarchy.

Which even if you start from then would still fall well above the millennium and still about 10x most of the longest lived democratic systems. I'm not saying I want to live under a monarchy, but saying we know democracy is just as stable is something we are nowhere near being able to comfortably say.

That is not the point. You made a claim. :blob_neutral: Now prove it. Where are all these millennia long monarchies?

I suppose pope is sovereign over some territory, but I don't think that is the main responsibility. It is being the head of the Roman Church, not ruling over territory.
But I do not follow the Roman church, so I am not the best to talk about it.

Hey, do we count?
The Kingdom of Hungary was a monarchy in Central Europe that existed for nearly a millennium, from the Middle Ages into the 20th century. The Principality of Hungary emerged as a Christian kingdom upon the coronation of the first king Stephen I at Esztergom around the year 1000

:blob_melt: Institutions surely. But they made the very specific claim of single dynasties being millenia old.

@Corty Corvinus kicked the bucked. So no continuous dynasty. :blob_neutral:

"If you are looking at it as counting only when the same direct line of inheritence over the same plot of land counting as the success of that particular instance of monarchy even then multiple have lasted for around a millennium and the Japanese monarchy lasted over 2 millennia."

:blob_reach: This is the claim I contested. They claimed there are multiple millennia old dynasties.

yeah, I think the oldest dynasty is maybe the Habsburgs, but that is because they have been making sure every royal bloodline has a little bit of jawline of theirs in them. But a millennia-old of continuous ones? Dunno about that.
